What is Amarra?

Sonic Studio Amarra brings unique and superior technology from the pro audio mastering industry to your home. Amarra represents a significant upgrade of sonic performance and capabilities to existing computer playback systems.

Sonic Studio has been the mastering engineers choice for computer-based audio mastering for over twenty years. In fact over 70% of CDs produced have used Sonic's SSE sound engine. Sonic has been developing and refining its sound engine for over 10 years, using superior algorithms and mathematics to produce the most accurate sound reproduction possible in the digital domain. For the first time this sonic accuracy is available to consumers in the form of the Amarra product line.

Amarra works on the Macintosh OSX Operating system 10.4 and above (Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard). Amarra works with Apple iTunes. When you launch Amarra, it launches iTunes on its right side. When you play a lossless audio file (AIFF, WAV etc.) the actual musical data is routed through the Sonic Studio SSE sound engine, bypassing iTunes and Apple Core Audio and is delivered directly to your chosen sound output. Currently Amarra supports the following hardware: Apple Built In Audio (BIA - includes Toslink output), internal sound cards, FireWire and USB connected DACs. For the complete list, check HERE.

When iTunes is not playing a lossless audio file, everything is routed through iTunes as normal. Using Amarra is a seamless and transparent experience.

High Resolution Audio and Automatic Switching of Sample Rates

If you have used iTunes with high resolution audio files you know that you have to manually change the sample rate whenever you play a file of a different sample rate.

Amarra automates switching of sample rates so you don't have to. This means you can create playlists of songs with different sample rates, or just play your own selections without worrying about sample rate changes.

The full version of Amarra supports sample rates of up to 24 bits, 192 Khz, so you can play just about any format that is available.
